Bearded dragons’ housing needs are particular in certain areas. All the bearded dragon facts you’ll read anywhere state that the most important aspect of a bearded dragon setup is the necessity of a heat source that allows at least 1 area of the tank to reach a temperature of 100 degrees on a constant basis.
Bearded dragons are reptiles and like all reptiles they have no way of generating heat themselves, instead they rely solely on the sun to heat them up. They need their body temperature to rise in order for it to perform functions like digestion properly. If they were never able to warm up, they wouldn’t really be able to digest food and their immune system would malfunction. They could live for awhile but eventually would succumb to malnourishment or disease.
The easiest way to ensure an adequate heat supply is to hang a 150 watt ceramic bulb on one side of the cage and place a log under it so they can climb up or down to self-regulate their temperature.
